The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) , founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children.
DAR members volunteer millions of service hours annually in their local communities including supporting active duty military personnel and assisting veteran patients, awarding thousands of dollars in scholarships and financial aid each year to students, and supporting schools for under served children with annual donations exceeding one million dollars.
As an inter generational chapter, Ruth Brewster members are committed to promoting the core values of patriotism, historic preservation, and education by organizing and participating in events and activities throughout the year.
Did you know? On March 1, 1911, the Ruth Brewster Chapter was officially founded—meaning yesterday, we turned 114! That’s over a century of meaningful service, and we’re just getting started. Here’s to many more years of dedication and impact!
Speaking of dedication, February was a whirlwind of activity for our incredible members. From lending a hand at the new horse stables on the National Mall to attending the Sweetheart & Patriot’s Gala benefiting the National Military Family Association—you all truly embodied the spirit of service.
We also had the privilege of taking a tour of the historical Anderson House in Dupont Circle, what a fascinating piece of architecture with so much history! Lastly, we attended the annual George Washington Birthday Luncheon at the Army Navy Country Club, celebrating George Washington's birthday together with DCDAR, DCSAR and D.C.C.A.R members. How fun!
And let’s not forget all the behind-the-scenes work. Many of you have taken on important roles at the state and chapter levels, and your dedication does not go unnoticed. Hats off to each and every one of you!
I want to also remind everyone that we have State Conference coming up quick, so don't forget to register before March 11th. I look forward to seeing many of you there!
Our next chapter meeting is virtual and scheduled for Tuesday, March 11th at 7pm. Stay tuned for more details.
In DAR friendship,
Ciara Young, Chapter Regent
